Brucellosis is one of the most important zoonoses that affects human welfare and livestock health worldwide. The disease is caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella  comprised of different species that vary in their affinity and virulence to several hosts. Control of the disease requires basic understanding of the pathogenesis as well as the prophylaxis and surveillance methods available for its control/eradication.
